Career Coach & Resume Writing Services Resource List

Looking for assistance with your job search or resume? Want to find a qualified resume writer or career coach? Whether you’re a job seeker or just need help managing your career, you might be wondering how to find good career professionals such as resume writers, resume writing services, career coaches, career coaching services, etc.

So for those of you looking for help finding good resume or career coaching support, here’s a handy-dandy resource list to hopefully help you come up with a qualified resume writer or coach that fits your particular needs.  (FYI: Professional coaching services include executive coach, management coach, career coach, emotional intelligence coach, career transition coach, and interview coach services.)

NOTE: I don’t know each and every person on this list and therefore can’t personally vouch for which resume writer or coach will be the one you want. I would however strongly suggest you contact and interview them directly to decide for yourself the best match for your individual resume writing or coaching need. Ask lots of questions (including experience, how they work with you, refund policy, etc.); see if they really listen; ask for verifiable recommendations; and (for resume writers) ask for sample resumes and sample cover letters. Above all trust your gut.

If it doesn’t feel right…move on.

Before you hire any resume writer or coaching professional…

Before you hire someone, remember to arm yourself with good basic info about basic resumes and job searches. This is a 2-way street – you need to know how to help guide them, no matter how much of a “career expert” they are. You’re looking for someone who meets YOUR needs. If you feel they are leading you in the wrong direction…run don’t walk to another person who really gets you and your needs. Beware of people who pretend to have all kinds of scientific “facts” and then charge you a fortune to give you something that won’t get you anywhere except $2000 poorer!  (If you pay more than a few hundred – and some charge even less – you’re probably being overcharged, no matter how much of an expert they claim to be. Then again, a good resume writer puts in time and effort and deserves fair compensation. ;-) )

Not sure what a good resume is? Here are some articles about resumes that might help. And here are some suggestions as well as a few links to resume articles you might find useful. Also check out sample resumes on resume sites that offer examples. Really think about how a person reading your resume will react – and whether it paints a clear and compelling picture of you and your brand while still matching employer needs as closely as possible. Hiring a career professional is a partnership. When you hire someone to help you, you at least need to know enough to make an educated guess as to whether you’re truly getting good quality help!

  • Angie Jones, CPRW, CEIC

    Hi Ronnie Ann,
You’ve provided some excellent advice but you might recommend that job seekers ask to see samples of the writers work before hiring them.

There is no reason that samples cannot be provided for review. Most legitimate writers will provide a sample resume in a different industry. If the writer refuses to provide a sample afraid using the excuse that their work will be stolen the job seeker should run the other way and consider another writer.

Also, I’d appreciate it if you’d consider adding me to your list of resume writers. You’ll learn more about my qualifications and find samples of my work on my website.

    Thanks,
    Angie Jones, CPRW, CEIC

Thanks Angie! Really nice advice. Have proudly added your information (thank you for submitting that) to our professional resources list!

One of the most important things a resume writer must do is interview the client carefully to find out what his objectives/goals are and make sure that his resume meets that. It gives resume writers a bad name when the client’s needs are not met.

Skills and experience go hand in hand in a resume. It is important for someone who wants to transfer his skills to make sure that the resume writer understands what field he is going into. The resume writer must match those skills and experience and showcase them in a way that will be attractive to the potential employer. To do less is a disservice to the client.

As a recruiter, I found that often when I did a search the wrong keywords were used so you had applicants that were not qualified in any way, shape, or form.

To add insult to injury, this man was charged an exorbitant rate for a resume that did not do the job.

Celia is also a contributor to the Examiner blogs. If you want to read some of her articles, click here.
