Rightly qualified means you can do the job – no matter what anyone says. It’s also my way of countering the all-too-often ridiculous explanation that Baby Boomers (or anyone with a few gray hairs) are overqualified for a job (even if they are pursuing career change), when most of the time it actually means they are too old in the eyes of the person doing the hiring. To me either you can do a job or you can’t.
Now I know there are times when an employer legitimately might not want to hire a top executive to do entry level work, but there are also many times when the overqualified argument colors possibility and cuts off the candidacy of someone who might be rightly qualified after all. And there is no guarantee EVER that any person of any age will stay or do the job well.
HINT: If you believe you are rightly qualified, there is a much better chance the person across the hiring desk from you will believe it too.
