What Is a Twitter List?

Twitter provides you with the ability to create special Twitter Lists of your own that you can use (and others can follow). You can also follow Twitter Lists other people create. Why in the world with all else you have to do would you want to create a Twitter List?

Good question. Depends on whether you want an easy way to group people you follow into one place. (I mean their tweets.) As your list of followers grow, your Twitter List(s) help you follow a select few whose latest tweets you’d like to easily find and review when you have time.

In case you’re interested…to create a new Twitter List, just go to the column all the way to the right where your Account Name and information is and scroll down below Home to where you see the word Lists (under Search). If you look below that, you’ll see New List. Click on that, give your list a List name (you might want it to describe the people you follow on that particular list) and Description, and voila…you have a Twitter List.

So how do you add people to your Twitter List?  Glad you asked. When you go to their Twitter Profile, toward the top under their Twitter name (kind of in the middle) you’ll see the word “Lists”. Just click on the upside-down triangle to the right of  Lists and check the box. You’ve now added them to the Twitter List of your choice (you may have more than one).  Now here’s the part you have to be ok with…not everyone follows your Twitter List even though you added them and are a really nice person. I’ve learned to live with it. ;-)
