Unfortunately, what happened was that they recommended me for hiring... and then they announced a hiring freeze! Since the US Dollar tanked during the year, their budgets were all off, and they can't hire until August. Hopefully I'll still be at the top of their list then-- I really wanted that spot. Thanks! At this point, I just want you to know it would be ok to give them a polite call and say you are still very interested and just want to make sure they have everything they need from you at this point. That would help you feel less powerless. At least you’ll have made your best effort and can go into the weekend knowing that.

When I came back, they had just (the day before) sent me an email asking for my references. (April 1 or so). I sent them back immediately, no response. On Monday, they sent me an email saying "Are you still interested? We're very interested, sorry for the wait, we've been out of the country". (Yeah, it is an international field.)
